From April 23rd to 27th we are waiting for you at the Lucca Classica Music Festival!

Music will invade every corner of the city, from morning until late at night. The squares, historic buildings, churches, theatres and all the spaces that can accommodate sounds, culture and beauty will become the beating heart of this extraordinary edition.

“Metamorphosis” is a project of the Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Penitentiary Administration and the Excise, Customs and Monopolies Agency. The project is carried out in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo, the Peppino Vismara Foundation, the Monza and Brianza Onlus Community Foundation, the Alberto and Franca Riva Foundation and the Santo Versace Foundation.

Faced with the tragedy that sees the Mediterranean Sea as the largest cemetery in Europe, and faced with the drama we are witnessing every day of millions of people fleeing from hunger and war, the Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti Foundation wanted to think of a cultural and knowledge project to which it gave the name of “Metamorphosis”, to communicate, especially to the new generations, this contemporary drama.

The proposal to focus on these themes occurs through not only a metaphor but, in fact, a real “metamorphosis”: that of the wood of the migrants’ boats, transported from the Favarolo pier in Lampedusa to the Opera prison, and transformed by the detainees into musical instruments and objects of a sacred nature, so that everyone can know a reality, that of migrants, which is often removed, looked at with indifference or faced and told in an ideological way. “Metamorphosis” because this mutation of the wood also changes those who carry it out, that is, the detainees hired by our Cooperative, and starts a real path of redemption.
